ABOUT THE GALLERY
Brunswick Street Gallery provides professional exhibition space to self-representing local and national artists, as well as creative studio spaces for makers and designers.
Located in the heart of Fitzroy — one of Melbourne’s most creative suburbs — we oversee a dynamic schedule hosting regular exhibition openings, numerous cultural events and art prizes throughout the year.
The gallery comprises of seven gallery spaces, a Stockroom, and four creative studios housing some of Melbourne’s leading makers and designers. With new exhibitions opening every three weeks by exciting emerging and mid-career artists Brunswick Street Gallery is worth the visit.
Gallery Manager – Jacqui Burnes
Jacqui has worked across numerous facets of Melbourne’s creative community. From 2015-2020 she was Co-Founder and Co-Director for Enough Space; a small gallery in Prahran, where the key focus was creating a staple south-side venue for innovative and accessible artistic endeavours, and has previously worked with Craft Victoria. She has a keen interest in the representation and support of the emerging creative, working alongside the Brunswick Street Gallery team to ensure the creative programs remains diverse, accessible, educational, and ultimately an enjoyable and fulfilling experience for all.
The ongoing development of Brunswick Street Gallery’s Stockroom, including partnerships with some of Australia’s renowned Indigenous Art Centres, is a highlight of her time with the gallery to date – an exciting chapter she is excited to continue, working more closely with the Gallery Coordinator and our represented artists to connect them with collectors worldwide.
gallery coordinator – woody mellor
Woody Mellor is the Gallery Coordinator and Lead Install Technician here at Brunswick Street Gallery. Woody is a practicing artist and experienced art handler. Recently returning to Australia, Woody graduated with a Masters in Painting from the Royal College of Art in 2016, cutting his teeth as a technician working with artists and galleries across London as the Logistics Coordinator for his installation company, Mellor & Banks Fine Art Services. For the past two years, Woody has been engaged with a gallery education project, designing exhibition activity guides with an aim to increase the accessibility of contemporary art in Australia. With his dedication to presenting work to the highest possible standard, Woody is looking forward to contributing all he can in support of our artists and their publics.
Gallery Administrator – Chloe Caday
Chloe Caday is the Gallery Administrator at Brunswick Street Gallery. She is also a practicing artist, with a particular interest in cultural and environmental contexts.
Chloe graduated at RMIT University, Melbourne with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2017. She has a background in painting, sound and installation art, primarily focusing on historical and contemporary society and landscapes in art. Interested in working with the emerging and diverse local art community, she has volunteered and interned at various artist run spaces and galleries around Melbourne. Since joining the team at Brunswick Street Gallery in 2018, Chloe works alongside the Gallery Manager and Gallery Coordinator, assisting and co-curating exhibitions, our online Stockroom and general operations of the gallery.
gallery & curatorial Assistant – kelly lawrence
Following her move to Melbourne from Tasmania, Kelly completed a Bachelor of Art History and Curating at Monash University, a Graduate Certificate in Arts at University of Melbourne and is currently completing a Master of Art Curatorship with University of Melbourne. Over the past 3 years, Kelly has also worked with numerous arts institutions across Melbourne including Heide Museum of Modern Art, TarraWarra Museum of Art and Lamington Drive as well as completing an internship with Sutton Gallery.
During her time with Brunswick Street Gallery, she has assumed a dedicated curatorial role (Can We Float?, 2019, All You Can Eat, 2019) and is also a practicing artist and designer.
Kelly has a keen interest in creative and cultural advocacy, and in her role as Gallery & Curatorial Assistant at Brunswick Street Gallery, she hopes to meet artists and creators who share her passion for the vibrant and diverse Melbourne arts community.
