Mygrations & Phenomenons: Laura Deakin & Katherine Hubble
10 – 27 MARCH 2022

This new body of work by Laura Deakin explores notions behind human migration and the connections we all have to it. Imagined landscapes lay void of human footprints, the backdrop to a new place and our journey to it. Small dots of colour coalesce together to form a complete image. Like weary eyes walking through rain, the viewer is invited to create an image of home. Belongings with us, we seek out a new nest. Across windy oceans with strange ground beneath our feet, we risk everything, leaving memories trapped in time.

Front and back are open to the wearer - no secrets here, just the distance between two places.

Laura Deakin holds a Bachelor of Fine Art (Monash University) and a Masters of Fine Art (Munich Art Academy). She has been the recipient of several local and international award and grants, including 'Bavarian State Prize for Emerging Designers'. Her work has been accepted into the prestigious exhibition 'Schmuck' on four separate occasions. Deakin’s work can be seen in permanent collections at the Museum of Modern Art & Design, Germany, and Gallery Marzee in Nijmegen, The Netherlands.

She currently lives and works in Melbourne.
